From the middle of the 17th century, Jewish composers began to stand out in the field of Classical Turkish Music in Izmir. The important source of inspiration for the Jewish composers of Izmir is the beloved Maftirim, that is Classical Turkish Music based Hebrew mystical hymns, which were developed in Edirne in the 1700s and adopted in synagogues of big cities such as Istanbul and Bursa.
Rabbi-Composers have added important links to this series of works in religious form that have flourished over a period of 300 years. Jewish composers enriched both Hebrew mystical hymns and Classical Turkish Music with the religious and secular works they composed.
